Dear Members of the Cañada Crescenta Democratic Club Healthcare Action Team,I hope you are all well.
I canvassed with National Nurses United Medicare for All in Glendale today for a few hours and it went well. The big push is to call Nancy Pelosi and tell her you support the Medicare for All Act of 2019.
NNU was founded in 2009 unifying three of the most active, progressive organizations in the U.S.—and the major voices of unionized nurses:
- California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee
- United American Nurses
- Massachusetts Nurses Association.
I encourage you to call one of his offices or email him and thank him for being a co-sponsor.
Although the official text of the Medicare for All Act of 2019, HR 1384 is not on Congress’ website yet, here is a summary from Physicians for a National Health Program, their leaders have worked with Pramila Jayapal regarding the bill.
The naysayers are out there, on February 28, a former physician executive from Kaiser had an Opinion piece in the LA Times that did not support Medicare for All. Today 3 letters were printed that beautifully contradicted that Opinion piece.
At the state level, last Friday was a deadline for California legislators to submit legislation. The California Nurses’s Association had been working with state senator Mike McGuire about carrying a bill this year but he said he did not have enough support from other legislators. So currently there is no legislation for a state Medicare for All type bill like we had in 2017 with the Healthy California Act.
