Race:  6691 Office: STATE SENATOR, 25th District

Candidate*ANTHONY J. PORTANTINO

Occupation or Vocation: State Senator

Website: www.anthonyportantino.com

Candidate Statement:

I’m honored to represent the 25th District in the California State Senate. I am also very proud to be a founding member of the Crescenta Canada Democratic Club and to be the California Democratic Party’s endorsed candidate for reelection. Over my entire career in public office, I have made supporting public education my top priority. Along the way, I have added a focus on youth mental health, accountability, foster youth, sensible gun control and environmental protection. Last year, Governor Newsom signed a budget which included a significant increase to special education funding at my request, my school late start bill and comprehensive gun storage legislation which I authored.
Locally, I’m pleased to have helped set the table for $20 million in new sound walls, injected $1 million into the Glendale Tech Accelerator and to have been a principal Co-Author of SB 5 which launched the Parks Bond Prop 68. Voters passed Prop 68 and it will bring millions of dollars to our communities for environmental protection and connectivity for or precious resources. I’m proud to have the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Pasadena & SGV, Sierra Club California, the California Federation of Labor, DPSFV and many other organizations. As the only legislator with my home telephone number on the State’s webpage, I pride myself on being accessible and available to the residents of the 18 terrific communities I’m honored to represent.

Website: https://leonard2020.com/

Candidate Statement:

I’ve been lucky to raise a family in Glendale and to serve our community as an AYSO coach, Boy Scout leader, Planning Commission; and Democratic Party Delegate, and other roles.

Today, we have serious challenges facing our city: the dangers and frustration caused by traffic, keeping our city safe, protecting our environment. For too long we have not utilized all of our community members and their talents, we have not been truly inclusive. As daunting as these challenges may be, we can overcome them if we work as ONE community. Which is why I’ve committed to appointing as many qualified women and renters to our boards and commissions. That is my vision: One City, One community for a Glendale we want and deserve.
